However, a wealthy plantation owner, infatuated with Madeleine, seeks help from a sinister voodoo master named Murder Legendre (played by Bela Lugosi). Using his dark powers, Legendre turns Madeleine into a zombie under his control. The film is remembered for its eerie atmosphere, Lugosi’s chilling performance, and for pioneering the zombie subgenre in cinema.
